Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address, also called a hash, may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you use it. Cookies
If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for convenience so you do not need to enter your details again when leaving another comment. These cookies last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we set a temporary cookie to determine whether your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we set cookies to save login information and screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days and screen options cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login persists for two weeks. Logging out removes the login cookies.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie is saved in your browser. It contains no personal data, indicates the post ID of the article, and expires after one day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles may include embedded content such as videos, images, or articles. Embedded content behaves in the same way as if you visited the other website.
Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, add third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that content, including when you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically.
For users who register on our website, if any, we store the personal information they provide in their profile. Users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time except for their username. Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including data you provided. You can also request that we erase personal data we hold about you, except data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
